Dausa

The home of Kachhawahas, Dausa is situated at National Highway 11, 55 kms east of Jaipur. This is an ancient town of archaeological importance. It had the privilege of being one of the erstwhile kingdoms of Kachhawaha rulers of Dhundhar. Daya Ram Sahni, an archaeologist, discovered other interesting antiquities which are believed to belong to the late medieval period.

Bhandarej

During Mahabharata times, this place was known as Bhadrawati. Walls, sculptures, decorative lattice work, terracotta utensils, etc. found in excavation render insight into the rich history of this place that can be traced back to the 11th century when the Kachhawaha chieftan Dulha Rai defeated the Badgujars and conquered Bhandarej.

Bhandarej Baodi or step well is a five story baodi ,also known as Badi Baori. It is a magnificent architectural creation. There are 150 wide steps going towards the main well, approximately 70 feet in width. On both sides, the five storeys have rest rooms and these afford complete privacy to the local population when using the water. On the both sides, there are large crescent shaped arches which add glory to the structure. The ceiling of the verandahs is plastered with lime-mixed stones. There are number of mutilated plaques inside the structure but only one plaque informs the visitors that the water tank was built in the year 1732 A.D. by Thakur Deep Singh and Daulat Singh.

Hotel Bhadrawati Palace is a well maintained palace of an interesting blend of both Mughal and Rajput architecture having courtyards, arched windows and traditionally painted verandahs. Palace also have a camping site with orchards and lush green fields. Located on the Jaipur- Agra highway, 62 kms from Jaipur, this heritage property is splendidly restored and refurbished to the former glory.

Abhaneri

Abhaneri or Abhanagari is an ancient village in Rajasthan, famous for its post-gupta or early medieval monuments. The village has contributed several pieces of precious sculptures to various museums worldwide. It is situated on the Ahmedabad - Delhi railway line, near Bandikui in Jaipur district.

On the way to Abhaneri, we come across Sikandara near Sikandara Chauraha about 25 kms from Dausa. This place is famous for its stone carving and has made its mark in international market.

Harshat Mata Temple in Abhaneri was built by King Chand or King Chandra of Nikumbh Rajputs of Chauhan dynasty who ruled this place during 8th and 9th centuries AD. This temple is an excellent example of intricate carvings on stone based on Mahameru style of architecture. Recently, restoration work was done here by Archaeological Survey of India but still it requires lot of work to bring it back to its original glory. According to locals, the village is so called because; the local goddess Harshat Mata is shown portrayed in a joyous mood and spreads “abha” or brightness all around.

Chand Baodi or step well is situated adjoining the temple of Harshat Mata. The stairs of the Chand Baodi are in the shape of a small inverted English letter 'V' in sets of 4/5 steps constructed on the three wall sides and are of unparalleled artistic and architectural beauty. Standing on the rampart, the total view of a complex and yet perfectly fused aesthetically designed structure. There are stone pillars for supporting pulleys to draw water and several storeyed varandahs are beautiful structures of the baori.

Bhangarh

This is a very mysterious place situated about 34 kms Dausa. It was once a very flourishing town of 10,000 homes. That was in the 17th century when it was built by Raja Madho Singh, the younger brother of illustrious Man Singh (one of the nine gems in Akbar’s court). According to prevalent tales, the town was cursed by an evil magician and had to be abandoned overnight. The fear still looms large in the mind of the locals, for they tread the soil of Bhangarh cautiously. The recently restored medieval bazaar is a truly fascinating sight. Nearby is the finely carved Someshwar temple and Gopinath Temple which has carved pillars and corbelled cupolas. This place provides an ensemble of religious, historical, architectural and mysterious ingredients giving this circuit an exciting feature.
